Safe Room Standard on Course for New Codes
The ICC/NSSA Standard on the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters was approved by ANSI as an American National Standard. This standard will offer new guidelines for community shelters and residential safe rooms for both tornado and hurricane wind zones. It is expected to be published in September for communities to adopt and will be considered as a referenced standard in the 2009 International Building and Residential Codes.
